How to take a hands-free selfie in 30 seconds

  1. Download Phone Take A Photo (free) and allow camera and microphone access.
  2. Prop your phone up at chest height — a shelf, a stack of books, a mini tripod or a car dashboard all work.
  3. Frame the shot with the front or rear camera. The rear camera is sharper; voice control means you don't need to see the screen.
  4. Step back and pose. Take as long as you like.
  5. Say “take a photo.” Change pose and say it again. And again.

Pro tip: use the rear camera for your best-looking selfies. It has the better sensor — and since you're not tapping a button, you don't need to see yourself.

Why not just use the timer?

The timer gives you 3 or 10 seconds, then fires whether you're ready or not. Every retake means walking back to the phone. With a voice shutter you can shoot a dozen poses in a minute without moving your feet.
